Back to Silence Retreat

An Exclusive Retreat Experience by Back to the Origin Retreats

March 13–20, 2027

Marrakech – Dades Valley – Merzouga, Morocco.

Marrakech – Dades Valley – Merzouga, Morocco

Back to Silence is not a retreat for everyone

It is an intimate journey for those who feel called to pause, step away from the noise of everyday life, and turn inward. It asks for openness, presence, and a willingness to embrace simplicity, silence, and the unknown.

This is not a holiday. It is an invitation to disconnect from constant stimulation and immerse yourself in the wisdom of the desert — a place where silence reveals what is so often drowned out by the busyness of daily life. To preserve the depth of the experience, places are intentionally limited, leaving space for meaningful connection, personal attention, and transformation.

If you feel drawn to the stillness, the vastness, and the possibility of reconnecting with yourself, perhaps this journey is calling you.

What You Can Expect

In the words of an old African proverb:
“Europeans have the clock, but we have the time.”

This retreat is an invitation to step out of the pace of everyday life and experience a different rhythm. We travel to Morocco not only to discover a new landscape, but to reconnect with something ancient and universal: presence, simplicity, and the wisdom of slowing down.

Back to Silence is a journey away from constant doing and into the practice of simply being. The desert teaches us that there is beauty in simplicity and clarity in silence. For a few precious days, we set aside our roles, expectations, and routines, and — surrounded by the vastness of the desert — journey inward towards stillness and a deeper sense of belonging.

Amilde and Saskia were so well connected. They both respected each other. And they both got inspired from and by each other. I loved to see that as a pair. This has an influence on the group. They could both bring their own magic. There was ease in the system and expertise. Really value having 2 guides.

A Day in the Desert

Life in the desert follows a different rhythm. There is no rush, no agenda to keep up with, and nowhere else you need to be. This retreat is not about escaping life — it is about returning to yourself. Each day offers a balance of practice, rest, and spaciousness.

Sunrise — We begin the day in silence. Through meditation, breathwork, and yoga, we gently awaken with the rising sun and the quiet beauty of the desert morning.

Brunch — A nourishing home-cooked brunch prepared with fresh local ingredients, enjoyed together in community.

Time to Simply Be — Perhaps the most valuable part of the retreat: unstructured time. Time to rest, journal, read, wander through the desert, or simply sit and watch the changing landscape. For those who wish, optional activities such as camel rides, massage, tarot readings, or personal coaching sessions are available.

Afternoon Practice — The afternoon is dedicated to practices such as breathwork, yoga, meditation, sound healing, cacao ceremony, and sacred rituals — each offering an opportunity to slow down and reconnect.

Sunset — As the light softens, we gather for gentle Yin or Restorative Yoga, meditation, and live music.

Evening — After a nourishing dinner, we come together around the fire beneath a sky filled with stars. Together with our Berber hosts, we share music, stories, rhythms, and the simple joy of being together. As night falls over the desert, we return to rest, held by the silence and vastness of the landscape.

Itinerary

13 March | Arrival in Marrakech
We stay at Riad Bahia Salam, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city, offering a gentle landing before the journey begins.
Optional: arriving early? Treat yourself to a traditional Moroccan hammam — a beautiful ritual of cleansing and relaxation before entering the desert.

14 March | Journey to the Dades Valley
After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and travel towards the Dades Valley. Along the way, we visit the magnificent Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Morocco’s most iconic kasbahs. As we travel through mountains, valleys, and ever-changing landscapes, the pace begins to slow. Upon arrival, we settle in, share dinner together, and gather for our opening circle.

15–20 March | Desert Immersion
We leave the road behind and enter the Sahara. For five nights, our private desert camp becomes home — a place of silence, vast open landscapes, star-filled skies, and deep rest. Highlights include a camel ride through the dunes, private desert exploration, a visit to a village of Sub-Saharan musicians and traditional Gnawa music, a shared meal with a local Berber family, daily practices, and evenings around the fire beneath the stars.

20 March | Return to Marrakech
After breakfast, we begin our journey back to Marrakech. This is a full travel day, offering space to reflect, integrate, and slowly transition back into everyday life. Arrival in Marrakech is expected in the evening.

Accommodation
We begin and end in Marrakech at the beautiful Riad Bahia Salam, in the heart of the medina. On our way to the desert we spend one night in the Dades Valley. Our private desert camp is then home for five nights — shared twin rooms (2 single beds, 2 guests per room), each with a private bathroom. Simple, comfortable, and immersed in the silence and beauty of the Sahara.

Investment
Retreat investment: €1600,-

I came to this retreat hoping to unburden myself of stress, overthinking and all the ways I manage to get in my own way. I left not only feeling lighter, but also empowered. The practices and exchanges were gentle but transformative, inviting us to go deep inside and connect with our true selves. We released blocks, fears and insecurities and let our life force flow. All of this was made possible by the safe space created by Saskia and Amilde and supported by all the kind souls who formed a welcoming group. We were a mix of personalities, backgrounds, and experience with yoga and meditation, but somehow we became one tribe. We were free to follow our own needs and energy, whether that meant spending the afternoon lying in the sun, journaling or bargaining for crafts in the medina. The villa was truly a paradise, more beautiful than any photo. More than just a break from daily life, this was an extraordinary experience that I will carry with me always.

The reason I joined initially was to recharge and have some time for myself — something all mothers/women could really use :-). It brought me so much more, because through the beautiful program created by Saskia and Amilde, I felt a little more space open up inside me each day. Energy started flowing in a new way, it brought (new) insights, and I was also able to let go of things I no longer needed. Saskia and Amilde are wonderful teachers and storytellers with a lot of experience and knowledge. And yes, then there’s the location/villa: it’s amazing, with delicious food. It was just pure enjoyment every single day!

This time I joined Saskia and Amilde and there were 2 things that spoke to me: the title: 'Back to the origin' and the location: Morocco. Something happened and I am still not sure what it is. But I feel a shift. While being emerged in the most beautiful villa with the most amazing food and incredible leaders taking us through yoga poses and spiritual awakenings I feel closer to myself. Being able to listen and feel what my body, mind and soul needs. This was exactly that. My body felt acknowledged and stretched creating more space. My mind felt heard and at ease and my spirit got lifted. The word alignment is what I think connects it all. Still feeling the power of that week and no it didn't end...this was just the beginning.
